We have designed this Managed Service to help you use VirtueMailer with confidence. While we are here to help, we require you to provide content and be committed to working together with us to achieve successful email marketing initiatives for your business.
Terms & Conditions
- The cost shown does not include to cost of sending your campaign (see Pricing)
- The Managed Service option is subject to a minimum 12 month term
- This option is sold on a "use it or lose it" basis: like a gym membership there are no refunds for unused months
- Payments are to be made 1 month in advance by Automatic Payment
- Failure to complete a current payment in full may result in your VirtueMailer Managed Service going on immediate stop
- Payment(s) in arrears may result in your VirtueMailer account being suspended

Fequently asked questions
Can I include video in my emails?
Short answer is NO, there is currently no reliable video format suitable for display in emails. This is due to how well - or more appropriately, how badly - various email clients display video objects. (Apple Mail is by far the best email client for displaying video, but even so it remains limited).
Presently, a link from your email to the video in question is certainly the best option.
Can you send my campaigns for me?
Yes - we offer a Managed Service if you would like us to create and send your email marketing campaigns.
Can I have more than one template?
Absolutely. You can have as many different templates as you like. Use different layouts for press releases, newsletters or even different companies or client groups.
How long does it take to get my account setup?
Your FREE Account can be set up usually within 1 business day. Allow 1-3 business days to set up your account with your own templates designed and configured.
Can you furnish me with an email list?
No we can not supply email lists or databases to you. It is against New Zealand law for you to email people who you do not have express permission to email. VirtueMailer takes spam seriously. Click here for our Anti-Spam information page.
Can I create separate subscriber lists?
Yes you can create as many subscribers lists as you need. You can have separate sign up forms for each one or a single form that subscribes you to multiple lists.
Can I put a subscribe form on my website?
Absolutely. We can provide you with a subscribe form on your website, or email the code directly to your web designer.
Can I display my newsletters on my website?
Yes we can add some html code that will automatically display your sent campaigns on your website.
Can I have a demonstration of the system before I sign up?
Absolutely. Contact us to arrange a fully functional demonstration.
When people reply to my newsletters will the emails come to me?
Yes when you create an email marketing campaign you choose the email address that your campaign is sent from, and the reply address can be the same or another email address of your choice.
Do you offer bulk discount pricing?
If you send more than 5,000 emails per month you may apply for a bulk discount. Talk to us directly to find out exactly what we can offer you.
Creating and Using Segments
A segment is a subset of one of your existing subscriber lists. For example, instead of emailing everyone on your ‘Widget Fans’ list, you might only want to send an email to the subscribers living in the US. That’s a perfect job for a segment.
Creating a segment
To get started with segments, jump into your account and hit the ‘Manage Subscribers’ tab, and then pick the list you want to work with. You’ll find the segments link on the right side.

Now you can hit “Create a new segment” button to create a new segment.

You’ll need to give it a sensible name that describes the segment so you can use it later. So, in this example, ‘US Residents’ makes sense. Create the segment, and you are now ready to add some rules.
Using rules with segments
Rules are the criteria you use to select the addresses you want. For every list, you can create rules that are based on Name, Email address and date subscribed. If you have custom fields in your list, you can make rules based on those too.
In this case, we want to create a segment of subscribers who have a ‘Country Code’ of ‘US’. So drop down the select box and choose ‘Country Code’, and click “Add rule”.

Now we can create my Country Code rule. Select ‘Country Code equals US’ (it’s not case sensitive) and click “Save and refresh count”.

The full list of possible rule types is:

You can combine any number of rules to split your segment as far as you like. Not all of them are available for every field or list. You can also add multiple rules for the same field. For example “Email contains hotmail or Email contains gmail”
Segments are smart!
Once you’ve finished tweaking your rules, you’ll have a set of subscribers. Every time you come back to check out your segment, and every time you send a campaign to your segment, the rules will be re-applied to your list, and the segment will be updated.

So now you when you create a new campaign and select some recipients, your new segment will show up as an option. US residents will rejoice with their own individual email!

- second chance offer to people who did not click through on your last campaign

FAQs about segments
Is sending to a segment charged like a normal campaign?
Yes, each time you send to a segment of your list, you will pay the normal rates for a campaign.
Do I have to update them manually?
No - segments are automatically updated before you send to them, and each time you view the segment details. They don’t update ‘live’ because of the amount of processing that would require.
Can I do a ‘contains’ rule for custom fields?
Sorry, no. At the moment, you can only use ‘Contains’ and ‘Does not contain’ rules for the email address.
Can I segment based on dates other than the subscribe date?
Yes, you can create segment rules based on custom fields that are defined as dates, which lets you easily create lists of people who are having birthdays this month, or who are due for an appointment. However you might choose to set those emails up using an autoresponder instead.
